Reimagining Puebla’s Tourism Experience for a Global Audience

In one of Mexico’s most culturally rich states, the Government of Puebla saw an opportunity: to position its historic sites, vibrant traditions, and stunning natural beauty on the global map through a digital-first tourism experience.

As one of the most visited regions in the country, Puebla is a destination of remarkable diversity—from colonial architecture and UNESCO-recognized gastronomy to festivals, artisan towns, and ecotourism routes. Yet its digital presence didn’t do justice to the experience awaiting travelers. Information was scattered, visuals were outdated, and there was no single source of truth for visitors seeking inspiration or practical travel planning.

The Challenge

Tourists from around the world—speaking different languages—struggled to find trustworthy, engaging, and up-to-date information about Puebla’s destinations. Much of what existed was fragmented across separate government websites or buried in brochures. There was no modern portal that brought together the full story of Puebla’s cultural richness in a way that resonated with today’s digital travelers

With tourism being a key economic driver for the state, this lack of digital infrastructure posed a real threat to growth and visibility.

The Objectives

The state needed a digital showcase that could promote tourism, attract new visitors, and reflect the pride of Puebla’s heritage.

Key goals included:

  • Inspire visitors by telling Puebla’s story through compelling design and multilingual content.

  • Highlight destinations, routes, events, and cultural assets in one immersive space.

  • Ensure mobile accessibility for travelers on the go.

  • Enable internal teams to update and manage content fluidly and independently.

  • Establish a scalable foundation to integrate future experiences such as ticketing, reservations, and user profiles.

The Solution

A modern, content-rich portal was envisioned—one that would elevate the voice of Puebla through storytelling, discovery tools, and curated travel paths.

The platform was designed to feel less like a government website and more like a digital travel magazine. Visitors could explore interactive destination profiles, browse thematic travel routes (from gastronomy to nature), and plan their journey through location-based navigation. Each section of the portal showcased high-impact imagery, layered narratives, and smart categorization to drive exploration and engagement.

Behind the scenes, state teams could manage content autonomously while maintaining consistency and quality across every page. This allowed the portal to grow organically, always keeping pace with Puebla’s evolving offer.

The project was developed in collaboration with CMI, a great partner that helped guide both the creative and technical implementation.

The Outcome

Today, Puebla’s tourism portal is a beacon for exploration. It not only invites potential travelers to discover its destinations but also equips them with the tools to plan immersive and meaningful journeys.

The site captures the essence of Puebla—colorful, historic, modern, and welcoming—and presents it in a format that resonates with global audiences. From hidden gems to iconic landmarks, from rural escapes to urban experiences, the portal positions Puebla as a must-visit destination for all kinds of travelers.

What Went Into It

  • This digital transformation combines many of the powerful modules in CXF, including Headless Content Management, Customer Data, and Engagement tools.
  • Content was delivered in four languages using a single authoring structure and a universal schema for channel-ready deployment. Customer data included visitors’ favorited destinations, event interests, and interaction histories—progressively building visitor profiles that helped the Government of Puebla understand what inspired the public. This enabled them to tailor their communications and run better-performing ads and promotions.
